This page explains the cookies used on petapproves.com and how you can control them.
What a cookie is, in one paragraph
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser. It lets the site remember something between visits, like a login state or a basic traffic count.
A cookie cannot reach into your computer and pull files. It cannot see your email inbox or your bank account.
Most cookies on a site like ours are boring by design. They just help a page remember a setting or help us see how many people visited a guide.
First-party cookies
These cookies come from our own WordPress site and help it run properly.
- Login and session cookies. Set when someone logs into the site’s admin area.
- Comment cookies. If you leave a comment, WordPress can save your name and email in a cookie so you do not have to retype them next time.
- LiteSpeed Cache cookies. Our caching plugin sets cookies that help pages load faster for you.
Third-party cookies
We use Google Analytics 4, connected through Google Site Kit, to understand overall site traffic. Google may set cookies on your browser as part of this.
Google Search Console, which we use to monitor how the site appears in search results, does not set any cookies on your browser.
Local storage
Some parts of a site use local storage instead of a cookie. It is browser storage that works the same basic way: text saved in your browser rather than on our server.
Google Analytics 4 may use local storage alongside cookies to help tell one visit from another. The controls in the next section apply to it too.
How long cookies last
Cookies fall into two general types. A session cookie disappears when you close your browser. A persistent cookie stays for a set period, sometimes months, then expires on its own.
Google Analytics 4 sets its own default expiry windows for the cookies it uses, and we do not control those windows. Google’s own cookie policy and privacy policy explain them in full.
No ad network on this site
Pet Approves does not run any ad network. We do not use ad-tracking cookies of any kind.
Ads and children
Because there is no ad network here, there is no ad-targeting cookie to worry about on this site. We do not knowingly target children with this site or its content.
Pet Approves is a general-audience pet site, not one directed at kids, and we do not collect information here for advertising purposes.
If that ever changes, this page changes first, before any ad-related cookie goes live.
Your cookie choice
A banner shows on your first visit with two options: Accept, or Essential only. Accept turns on Google Analytics 4. Essential only keeps it off; the site works the same either way.
Your choice is saved for 12 months in a cookie named pa_consent. To change your mind, clear that cookie in your browser and reload, or use the browser-level controls in the next section.
If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, we treat that as Essential only automatically, no click needed.
How to control cookies
You can block or delete cookies through your browser’s settings. Most browsers let you block third-party cookies while still allowing the site to function normally.
Blocking analytics cookies will not affect your ability to read articles or use the contact form.
Changes to this policy
We may update this page as the site changes, for example if we add a new tool or a new analytics service. The date at the top always shows the last update.
Check back here if you want the current picture. We will not backdate a change to make it look older than it is.
