I have owned several dog strollers for small dogs over the years in Henderson, Nevada, and most of them came apart. Usually a wheel. Always a wheel.

Not every stray that wandered into our shop was Mastiff sized. Plenty of them were little, and plenty of them were old, and an old small dog tells you about half a mile in that she is done. She stops, she looks at you, and you carry her home. That is the whole reason this thing exists.

So I bought strollers. One lost a wheel on a gravel verge. One folded fine in the store and never folded the same way again. The last one gave up on a July afternoon with a hot sidewalk and a dog who could not walk on it. Then I spent a full day on every small dog stroller worth buying now, thirteen of them, reading the listings, the printed weight limits, the folded sizes and the reviews at both ends. Ten made this page. These are my picks.

Short version. A small dog stroller is not a pram. It is a wheeled crate, and it lives or dies on the wheels, the brake and whether your dog actually fits. Measure your dog first, then read the numbers the maker prints. Half of these makers do not print a weight limit at all, and I have marked every one of them.

How I ranked these dog strollers for small dogs

Several dead strollers in, I know what fails first. I spent years as a mechanic in a custom off-road shop, so I look at one of these the way I looked at a truck part: what holds the load, what takes the shock, what is going to shear off. Then I read every listing and the reviews at both ends.

  • Does the maker print a weight limit. Five of these ten do not. That is the single most useful number for a small dog owner, and its absence is a mark against a listing, not a neutral fact.
  • The wheels. Rubber or EVA over hard plastic, four over three for stability, and a front wheel that locks straight for pushing in a line.
  • A rear brake, stated. Not implied. Named in a bullet, on both rear wheels, so the thing stays put on a slope.
  • Does it fit your dog. Printed interior or cabin dimensions beat any marketing word. Small is not a size.
  • The fold. A printed folded size, and ideally one hand doing the folding while the other holds a leash.

Best dog stroller for small dogs under 10 lb

A Chihuahua, a Yorkie, a small terrier. The trap here is buying big, because a tiny dog in a wide cabin slides around every time you turn. You want a printed interior size and a light frame you can lift into a car boot one handed.

Best for tiny dogs

1. ZENY Foldable Pet Stroller, 4 Wheels

  • Interior printed at 19.69 by 12.2 by 20.87 inches
  • Four wheeled frame, swivel front
  • 400d water resistant Oxford body
  • Two cup holders and a basket underneath

The one that tells you whether your dog fits before you spend anything. Almost nobody in this category prints the inside measurement.

The owner review that sold me was a fifteen year old, ten pound dog taken out on hot days and on the longer walks where she runs out of road. That is this stroller’s exact customer. Another owner steers it one handed and keeps the basket loaded with shopping. Cat owners buy it in numbers too, which tells you the cabin suits a small animal who wants to sit up and look out.

Two honest gripes. The maker never prints a weight limit or names a brake, so I have marked both as not stated in the table below, and I would not park this on a hill and walk away. Wobbly wheels turn up in the reviews often enough to mention, usually on rough ground rather than pavement.

What bugs me

  • No weight limit printed anywhere
  • No brake named in the listing
  • Wheel wobble reports on rough ground

Budget pick

2. KMFurnila 3 Wheel Pet Stroller

  • Three wheel frame with lockable wheels
  • One hand folding mechanism
  • Retractable canopy over mesh windows
  • Aluminum frame, adjustable handlebar

One of the biggest movers in this category right now, and the cheapest thing here I would still put a dog in. Three wheels, so it turns tight.

Check the price on Amazon

The reviews have a pattern I trust: people who expected junk. One owner said outright that the low price made him skeptical and it turned out excellent. Another bought it for a daughter’s mini Australian Shepherd and rates the storage and the cup holders. A rabbit owner switched to it from a backpack carrier for the extra room. One line stuck with me about hills and old pavement, that it turns on a dime.

Here is what I will not soften. Stability reads as mixed across the reviews, which is the three wheel trade, and folding defeats some owners on the first go. The gripe I see most is the wheels, in the words of one four star owner, the only thing they struggled with. No weight limit is printed, so an adjustable handlebar and a canopy are what you are buying, not a load rating.

What bugs me

  • No weight limit printed
  • Stability is the usual three wheel compromise
  • The wheels are the recurring complaint

Best dog stroller for 15 to 20 lb dogs

This is the busiest size in the category and the one where a printed weight limit starts to matter. A twenty pound dog on a twenty five pound frame is fine. A twenty pound dog on a frame that never states a limit is a guess, and guesses are how wheels come off.

3. BestPet 4 Wheel Foldable Pet Stroller

  • Pets up to 25 pounds, stated on the listing
  • Rear brakes and a front wheel buckle control
  • Swivel front wheels for tight turns
  • Zippered mesh screen window on each compartment

The deepest review record on this page by a wide margin, and it still costs less than most of the field. This is the default answer for a fifteen to twenty pound dog.

Check the price on Amazon

The buckle control is the feature I did not expect at this price. It locks the front wheels straight so the stroller tracks in a line instead of hunting on a long walk, and you release it when you need to turn. One owner described a seventeen year old cat and a small chihuahua riding together and taking to it immediately. Another called it the best thing she had bought for her dog, and singled out how fast it opens and closes.

The gripes are consistent and worth knowing. The zipper is the weak part, hard to line up and easy to strain, so guide it rather than yank it. Sturdiness reads as mixed, and wheels breaking is the failure owners report. Buy it knowing it is a light frame at a light price, keep to pavement, and it earns its keep.

What bugs me

  • The zipper is fiddly and the common complaint
  • Wheel failures turn up in the reviews
MoNiBloom pet stroller for small dogs up to 33 lbs with rear brakes
Best all-round

4. MoNiBloom Pet Stroller, up to 33 lbs

  • Up to 33 lbs, stated on the listing
  • Brake protection devices on both rear wheels
  • 360 degree front wheel with a shock absorber
  • Hooded peak top window, padded foam floor

My pick for most homes. It prints the limit, brakes on both rear wheels, and puts a shock absorber on the front wheel, which is the part your dog feels, and the smoother roll is what the pet approves of.

Check the price on Amazon

The reviews here are the ones I would want if I were shopping. A thirteen year old Pomeranian who could not keep up with the older dogs on walks, so she rides and still comes. An older couple who take theirs on vacation and lift the dog in when he gets tired. That is not novelty use, that is a stroller doing the actual job, repeatedly, over months.

Two things before you buy. Quality control is the split: one owner had a bent frame arrive and got a replacement quickly, and wheels popping off shows up in a minority of reviews, so open the box and check the frame the day it lands. And the cup holder only takes a small or medium drink, which is a small thing until it is your coffee on the pavement.

What bugs me

  • Arrival condition is a coin toss for a minority
  • Wheels popping off in a handful of reports

5. Carlson Pet Products Stroller

  • 360 degree front wheel swivel
  • Rear wheel brakes, reflective trim
  • Large mesh panels for airflow and visibility

The Carlson Portable Pup is one of the strollers the AI answers keep naming for small dogs, and the shade cover is why. In a Nevada summer that is not a luxury.

The medical stories are what stand out in these reviews. An eleven year old, eleven pound Yorkie with a kneecap problem who could no longer walk far. A dog who went completely blind and had lost her walks entirely. An owner with an eighteen pound cat says the basket is big enough for him to turn around and sit upright, which is a better fit description than anything on the listing.

Two cautions. Carlson never prints a weight limit or a wheel count, so the table below marks both as not stated, and I will not guess on your behalf. Sturdiness reads as mixed in the reviews. One owner moved to this from a four wheel stroller specifically because the four wheeler would not turn, which is the trade you are making.

What bugs me

  • No weight limit printed
  • Sturdiness reports are split

Best dog stroller for two small dogs

Two small dogs is not the same problem as one medium dog. You need floor area more than height, a frame rated well above their combined weight, and enough room that neither one is lying on the other when you turn a corner. Both of these print the numbers that let you check.

6. Bicystar Dog Stroller, Detachable Carrier

  • Fits 2 small pets or one up to 50 lbs, stated
  • Solid rubber wheels, four wheel frame
  • Four anti shock stabilizers, aluminum tubing
  • Carrier interior printed at 26 by 14.2 by 9.4 inches

The best built thing on this page and the highest rated. Solid rubber wheels instead of hard plastic, and the carrier lifts out and goes in the car.

The two dog reviews are specific enough to be useful. One owner has two ten pound cats with room to move around inside. Another has three six pound pups, after returning one stroller and selling another, and calls this the one that finally worked. A third has a small dog who cannot go as far as her medium dog, which is exactly the household this solves. Owners keep using the word gliding about the wheels, and one confirms the rear brake works properly.

What you are paying for is the chassis, so be clear eyed about the rest. No folded size is printed, so if boot space is tight, measure before you commit. It is the heavy end of the money here, and if you only ever carry one small dog on pavement, the MoNiBloom does that job for a lot less.

What bugs me

  • No folded size printed
  • Overkill for one small dog on flat pavement

7. ROODO 4 Wheel Pet Stroller

  • Cabin printed at 22 by 12 by 9 inches
  • Folds to a printed 18.5 by 6.5 by 35 inches
  • Stroller weighs 11.5 lb, stated
  • Tool free wheel installation and removal

The most honest set of numbers on this page. Cabin size, folded size and the weight of the stroller itself, all printed, so nothing is a surprise.

Check the price on Amazon

Owners buy this one after outgrowing something smaller. One had a twenty pound cat who no longer fitted an umbrella style stroller and, more to the point, no longer felt stable in it. Another fits a seventeen pound Maltese with room left. The detail I liked came from an owner glad the wheels pop in and lock with no pins to lose, and another who had it assembled in under ten minutes from the pictures alone.

The catch is the same as the ROODO below it. No weight limit is printed on the listing, which for a four wheel frame this size is an odd omission. Use the cabin dimensions to decide, not the marketing, and if your dog is near the top of small, this is the one to measure against.

What bugs me

  • No weight limit printed
  • No brake named in the listing

Best dog stroller for senior dogs and stiff joints

An old dog feels every seam in the pavement, so this section is about the wheels and nothing else. Bigger wheels and a cushioned compound roll over cracks instead of transmitting them. A rear brake matters more here too, because you will be stopping to lift a dog in and out.

8. DUMOS 3 Wheels Pet Stroller

  • Shock absorbing EVA wheels, three wheel frame
  • 360 degree swivel and lock front wheel
  • Rear wheel brakes and a built in safety leash
  • One hand fold, zippered mesh canopy

The best specified ride on this page for the money. Cushioned wheels, a front wheel that locks straight, brakes at the back and a canopy, all named on the listing.

The reason it sits in the senior section is the spec sheet, and the reviews back the comfort up rather than the durability. A cat owner with a long cat reports plenty of room. Another owner bought it because summer pavement gets too hot to walk on, which is the same reason half of Henderson owns one of these. The zipper gets praise for being sewn well and the screen for being stiff enough to hold up.

Two honest limits. The review record is thinner than most of this page, so it has not been proven over years the way the BestPet has, and that is why it is not in my top three. One owner reports the zipper coming undone on one side, with the cats staying in anyway. No weight limit is printed.

What bugs me

  • A thinner record than the rest of this page
  • No weight limit printed
  • A zipper that gapes for some owners
Pet Gear No-Zip AT3 pet stroller with 12 inch EVA tires

9. Pet Gear No-Zip AT3

  • 12 inch EVA tires, the biggest wheels here
  • Front wheel fixed or swiveling, your choice
  • One hand easy fold, handle height 42 inches
  • No zip entry with an easy locking latch

Pet Gear is the name the AI answers reach for, and this is their all terrain model. Twelve inch tires change what ground you can push a dog over.

The reviews read like a rehab ward, and I mean that as a compliment. One owner researched carefully for an aging fifteen year old Boston Terrier. Another has a sixteen pound terrier mix, long in the body, still getting her walks while she recovers from cruciate ligament surgery. A Dachshund owner upgraded from a cheap stroller bought years ago. The forty two inch handle is the other quiet win, because a tall owner is not stooping over it for an hour.

Two things keep it out of my top three. Durability and the fold read as mixed across the reviews, and the front wheel is the part owners raise, although one reviewer went out of his way to say his turns and locks with no trouble at all. Pet Gear also sells the No-Zip Happy Trails Lite, a lighter and cheaper model with the same no zip entry, but its record is too thin for me to rank it yet.

What bugs me

  • Front wheel complaints from a minority
  • No weight limit printed
  • The most expensive stroller on this page

Best folding dog stroller, and what it actually weighs

Folded size is the number nobody checks and everybody regrets. A stroller that will not fit your boot with the shopping already in it is a stroller you stop taking. Only two makers on this page print a folded measurement, and both of them are ROODO.

ROODO 3 wheel pet stroller for small dogs up to 30 lbs folded small

10. ROODO 3 Wheel Pet Stroller, up to 30 lbs

  • Up to 30 lbs, stated on the listing
  • Folds to a printed 18 by 6.5 by 33 inches
  • Expanded size printed at 33 by 18 by 38 inches
  • Tool free wheel installation and removal

The smallest folded package here, and one of the biggest sellers in the category this month. Six and a half inches thick folded is a stroller that lives in the car.

Check the price on Amazon

The owner stories are the same three over and over, which is what a good record looks like. A fourteen year old dog who wants to go everywhere and now can. An indoor cat taken out to see the world for the first time. An owner who fits both her cats in it and did not need a double carrier after all. Several call out that the three wheels line up narrow, which is what makes the fold this thin.

Two limits to know. It is a three wheel frame, so it is less planted than the four wheelers here when you park it on a slope, and no brake is named on the listing. If you want this fold with four wheels, the ROODO 4 Wheel at number seven is the same design stretched, at a slightly bigger folded size.

What bugs me

  • Three wheels, so less planted on a slope
  • No brake named on the listing

Budget dog strollers for small dogs, without junk

The cheapest dog strollers for small dogs are the most searched version of this question, and it deserves a straight answer. Yes, there are usable ones down there, and three are on this page. The ZENY gives you four wheels and a printed interior size. The KMFurnila gives you lockable wheels, a one hand fold and a canopy. The BestPet sits at the top of that band and is the only one of the three with a printed weight limit and a named brake, which is why it is the one I would buy.

What you give up at this money is consistency, not features. The cheap frames use hard plastic wheels, the zips are thinner, and quality control is a lottery you enter every time. Check the frame and roll it across a hard floor the day it arrives, while a return is still easy.

One name to address. The Bigacc Travel Lite has been sold into this category for years and used to sit on this very page. It is still around, and the loudest review on it now asks for a fourth wheel, because a single front wheel makes it harder to steer. BingoPaw also turns up in the AI answers for small dog strollers. I have no listing data on it, so I am not going to rank something I have not read.

n/s = the maker does not say. Nothing here is my opinion, every check traces to a printed listing bullet. “Weight limit stated” needs a pound figure in the listing. “Interior size printed” needs cabin or interior dimensions. “Four wheels” is a cross for a three wheel frame and n/s where the maker never states a count. “Front wheel locks” needs a lock, buckle or fixed setting, not just the word swivel. “Rear brake stated” needs a brake named in a bullet. “Cushioned wheels” needs rubber, EVA or shock absorbing in the maker’s words. “One hand or tool free” needs the listing to claim a one hand fold or tool free wheels.

Wheels, brakes and how to choose a small dog stroller

Almost every complaint in this whole category comes back to the running gear. Here is the order I would work through it, and the sizing at the end.

  1. Three wheels or four. Three turns tighter and folds thinner, four is more planted, particularly when you stop on a slope or lean on the handle. For pavement, errands and a dog who gets in and out often, take four. For narrow paths and a small car boot, three.
  2. What the wheels are made of. Hard plastic is the default at the bottom of the price range and it transmits every crack straight to your dog. Rubber or EVA is worth the step up for a senior, and bigger is better again. Twelve inches is the largest on this page.
  3. A front wheel that locks. Swivel is for turning, locked straight is for pushing in a line without fighting it. The best frames here give you both with a buckle or a lever.
  4. A rear brake, named on the listing. Four of these ten state one. Use it every single time you stop to lift your dog out, because a stroller that rolls away with a dog in it is the accident this category actually produces.
  5. Measure your dog, then the cabin. Nose to tail base with her standing, plus about four inches so she can turn around and lie down. Then check that against a printed interior measurement. Small, medium and large mean nothing here.
  6. Check the folded size against your car. Before you buy, not after. If the maker does not print one, assume it is bigger than you hope.
  7. Weight limit with a margin. Take the stated limit and stay under it, because the limit assumes a dog lying still, not a dog standing up and shifting on a kerb.

Notice what is not here: the cheapest one. The ZENY undercuts everything on this page and it is a decent little stroller, but its record is a fraction of the BestPet’s, the wobble reports cluster on it, and it prints neither a weight limit nor a brake. At this money the value pick should still tell you what it can carry.

Dog strollers for small dogs FAQ

What weight can a dog stroller hold?

The ones on this page that print a figure run from 25 to 50 pounds, and the most common is around 30 to 33. Five of these ten never state a limit at all, which is worth knowing before you buy. Stay under whatever is printed, because the number assumes a dog lying still rather than standing up on a kerb.

Are dog strollers good for small dogs?

For an old dog, a recovering dog, a dog with joint or knee trouble, or hot pavement in summer, yes. It is what lets a dog who cannot walk two miles still come on the two mile walk. It is not a replacement for exercise for a healthy young dog, and anything about your dog’s joints belongs with your vet, not with me.

Three wheels or four wheels for a small dog?

Four wheels for stability, errands and stopping on slopes. Three wheels for tight turns and the thinnest fold. The three wheelers here fold noticeably smaller, and one owner switched to a three wheel Carlson from a four wheeler purely because the four wheeler would not turn.

What size dog stroller do I need for a 15 pound dog?

Measure her nose to tail base standing, then add about four inches so she can turn around. A fifteen pound dog is usually comfortable in a cabin around 20 by 12 inches, which is roughly the ZENY interior at 19.69 by 12.2 inches. Anything rated 25 pounds or more will carry her weight easily.

Can two small dogs share one stroller?

Yes, if the frame is rated for their combined weight and the floor is wide enough for both to lie down. The Bicystar states it fits two small pets and prints a carrier interior of 26 by 14.2 inches. Owners regularly report two ten pound animals riding in it with room to move.

How do I get my dog used to a stroller?

Leave it open in the house with the door unzipped for a few days and let her climb in herself. Feed her in it. Then take one short, smooth ride and stop before she wants to, so you find out early whether the pet approves of the motion. Owners who rush this end up with a dog who fights the stroller, and owners who take a week end up with a dog who jumps in on her own.
